Social Studies integrates History
and Geography with some basic Economics and Sociology. Pupils see
how they fit into the community and country and acquire skills
to integrate socially.
The MOE initiatives of National
Education (NE), Thinking Skills, Information Technology (IT), Economic
Literacy and Financial Literacy are incorporated into the syllabus.
Social Studies aims to equip pupils
with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to make informed
decisions; and to enable pupils to communicate and work as a team
in a multi-cultural and interdependent world.
Pupils will
• understand human interaction with places and the relationships between
people, places and environments
• acquire knowledge of how things were in the past and how things change
and develop
• understand the importance of making informed choices
• appreciate the multi-cultural world
Pupils will
• acquire, use and evaluate information and ideas from a variety of sources
• express and present information in oral and written forms
• work effectively as a group
• apply decision-making skills
Pupils will
• develop respect for and positive attitudes towards their own and other
people’s culture
• develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment
• develop a positive attitude towards lifelong learning
• foster a sense of belonging to the country
