PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Principal's Circular

7 February 2005

Dear Parents/ Guardian,

January has been an eventful month for the school. On 19th Januray, we hosted 15 educators from China. We had a fruitful time of professional sharing. The visitors were most impressed with our well-mannered pupils, teaching methods ad school facilities.

Our P5 and P6 boys went on their Learning Journeys to Chinatown and Little India respectively. They are now busy consolidating their learning through project work. 4 february was a memorable day for our GEP boys. The P6 GEP boys organized a special orientation programme at West Coast Park for the P4 and P5 pupils to help inculcate a spirit of camaraderie among the boys. All our P3 pupils were introduced to the rudiments of robotics as a teambuilding activity during the first two weeks of the term. We hope that this will spark an interest in robotics and pupils can then pursue this interest by participating in the Robotics CCA or enrichment programme.

Our P1 pupils have settled in well. It is joy to see them moving around the campus confidently. Our Chinese teachers organised a Fun Day for the P1 on 28 January. They had a day of interactive Chinese language activities. Do visit our school website at http://schools.moe.edu.sg/acsp for more details and photographs.

Some events lined up for February and March are Chinese New Year School Celebration, the P1 Parents' Dialogue Session and Founder's Day Celebration.

Chinese New Year Celebration

The school will celebrate Chinese New Year on Tuesday, 8 February. Pupils will report to School at the usual time and they will be dismissed at 10am. Pupils are encouraged to come in traditional Chinese attire or their New Year's best. They need not bring their school bags, just a story book and a water bottle will suffice. The celebration will be in the auditorium. Pupils will be treated to a programme consisting of performances by pupils and teachers. There will also be a time for community singing. We must not forget the less fortunate in our society in the midst of the festive gaiety. We will be asking our pupils to put aside a small portion of their 'hong bao' collection and donate it to the Methodist Welfare Services and Kidney Dialysis Centre. We hope that you will encourage your son to donate with a generous heart. 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35

Founder's Day Celebration

The school will hold its academic awards presentation on Monday, 28 Feb. Awardees will be given details later. We will observe normal school hours on that day.

On Tuesday, 1 March, the ACS family of six schools will hold a combined Founder's Day celebration at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The events is from 2.00 to 5.00pm. There will be no lessons in the morning for that day. Pr 1 - Pr 4 pupils need not come to school on 1 March. Only Pr 5 and Pr 6 pupils need to go to the Stadium. They are to report to school by 1.00pm. We will arrange for school buses to transport them to and from the Indoor Stadium. Please be in school at 5.30pm to pick up your son/ward. A gentle reminder, please ensure that your son/ward takes his lunch before he reports to school. He will be provided with a light snack at the end of the event which is about 5pm.

On the evening of 1st March, a Founder's Day Dinner will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-la Hotel. Tickets for the Dinner are available at $100 per head. If you would like to attend the Dinner, please fill in the form and submit to the School Office with cheque payment by 11 Feb 2005.
