4 January 2005

Dear Parents/ Guardian,

My warmest greetings to you. The new academic year has started and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all pupils and parents back to school for another year of enriching experience. Your children will be engaged in programmes and activities that will widen their scope of learning. We believe in providing a well-rounded education for all pupils. We need your support especially in the Character Building of our pupils. It is my practice to remind our Partners of a few important issues in this first letter of the year.

1. School Theme for January

The theme for January is to ‘Build Up One Another’. This is to start the year right by encouraging our pupils of the need to support each other and to learn to encourage each other in our words and deeds. We would like to encourage all parents to support the school in our Character Building effort. Together we will be able to build up the next generation of leaders with big hearts.

2. Tsunami Tragedy – Our Response in Prayer and Support

The recent sad event has affected many of us and we are thankful to God for the many Singaporeans who have come forward to offer help to the families who have been affected. Let us continue to pray for them to be strengthened and offer our assistance wherever we can.

As a school, we will be making a collection on behalf of the Singapore Red Cross Society. We want to encourage our pupils to have heart for other people. If you are writing a cheque, you may address it to the school as ‘ACSP’. We will collate and write a combined cheque to the Red Cross Society subsequently. The pupils can also donate their savings in cash and hand this over to their class teacher. We would like to do this by next Monday, 10 January, so that we can inform you of the total amount collected by next week.

3. ACS (International)

We have another new member added to the ACS family, the ACS (International). There was a dedication service for this new school on 3 January 2005. Let us pray that this school will also be used by God to touch many lives.

4. Additional New Houses

You might have read about it in The Straits Times. The ACS Board of Governors has decided to increase the number of houses to eight. Please read the attached Appendix for the details.

5. Carnival ACS 1 – 26 February 2005

To ensure that the quality education for our ACS boys is not hampered by the lack of funds, ACS(P) and ACS(Barker Road) have decided to organize Carnival ACS 1 on Saturday, 26 February 2005. We are thankful to our parents and staff who have started the planning work way back in 2004. More details and how every pupil can be part of this exciting event will be given in a separate letter at a later date.

6. Parking At Barker Road

We have been facing several problems relating to the lack for parking space for the past few years. This year, we have allocated a new parking space for parents just outside the school campus (opposite Chancery Court). We hope that this new parking space will ease the problems of many parents. The carpark lot will be opened from 1.00pm to 2.15pm daily. Parents are allowed to park at the new parking space during this period only.

We also wish to remind parents not to park their vehicles at the bus bay in the transport centre. This disrupts our school buses from leaving or parking at the bus bay. We look forward to your kind consideration.

LTA has informed the school that many parents have been parking illegally along Barker Road and Dunearn Road. We would like parents to comply with the traffic rules as LTA will be taking serious actions against offenders. We look forward to your kind cooperation.

7. Safety and Security – Visitor’s Pass

The school will continue to implement the strict measures with regards to the safety and security of our pupils. If you wish to come into the school for an appointment or work-related matters, please sign for Visitor’s Pass from the General Office and return the Pass to the Clerical Officer at the General Office before you leave the premises. This system will help us to monitor visitors to the school. We want our pupils to be safe and well taken care of. Thus, we will greatly appreciate if all parents will support the school in our effort to provide a safe and secure environment for our pupils.

8. Contacting the School Personnel

If you wish to speak with any of the school staff, just call the General Office at 62501633. Our Clerical Officer will assist you and provide the appropriate extension of the person you wish to speak to. When contacting the teachers, it will be good to refer to your child’s time-table so that you will be able to speak to the teacher when he/she is free. I also invite you to write a note to the teacher requesting for an appropriate time where you can either call or meet up with him/ her. You may also send an email to the teacher concerned.

9. School Dental Clinic

The school Dental Therapist, Mdm Ong Bee Lian, is on leave and will be back on 13 January. The clinic will be opened on Mondays to Thursdays, from 8.00am to 5.00pm and on Fridays, from 8.00am to 4.30pm. The clinic will be closed from 1.30pm to 2.00pm during lunch hour. For any enquiries, please call the General Office at 62501633 or the Clinic at 62543652.
